Pardon the rather uninspiring outfit for today’s post; the day we took these photos, we had a packed agenda touring famous places in Beijing, so I went for comfort instead of style (and my limited suitcase options didn’t really help either).
Pictures 4 and 5 were taken at the Great Wall while the rest were taken at the Summer Palace. That day, my family and I also visited the Beijing National Stadium aka the Bird’s Nest aka where the 2008 Olympics was hosted (but we were rushing so I didn’t have time to take some decent photos there…the problem with tours).
I have a love-hate relationship with Beijing. I can’t stand the crowd everywhere and the pollution, but the history of this city is so magical. It’s like everywhere you go, you’re stepping on a piece from the past. And you wonder who were the people who stood at the exact spot you’re standing, what were they doing, where were they from, what’s their story etc etc.
The architecture in Beijing is beautiful as well. I do not understand how the people were able to build such magnificent structures like the Great Wall, thousands of years ago no less, without modern technology. How many must have died, sacrificing their lives for the country.
Okay, I have an early morning planned tomorrow so I shall stop typing. x
